The Wheatsheaf is situated just outside of Caerleon village, with spectacular views over the hills towards the Celtic Manor Resort. The landlady, Marjorie Powell, moved into The Wheatsheaf Inn 28 years ago with her late husband, Henry Powell. It has remained relatively unchanged during this time, being a traditional 'olde worlde' pub.
The pub itself is a Freehouse, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Lunch is served Monday to Friday, from 12pm-2pm. All the food served is fresh and home-made daily. There is also a choice of real ales to choose from, many from local breweries. It has recently been awarded the Special Award 2016 by Gwent CAMRA for 30 consecutive entries in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
The pub is split into 2 rooms; the Bar and the Snug. The Snug has a cosy feel and is the quieter room of the two. The Bar is larger with an open fireplace and a darts area. The pub has two darts teams in the local league and they play on Thursdays all year round. During the winter, the Bar plays host to a Quiz Night every other Wednesday. Outside there is a spacious car park, with several tables to sit and admire the views with a drink. The car park also doubles up as the club pétanque pistes. Pétanque is played here every Wednesday from April until September and on Sundays during the winter months. The pub has four pétanque teams in the local BIG League and two in the WPA Cardiff League. Children are welcome and there is a small play area in the garden, which is enclosed for extra safety.
